Energy Quantified - Preparations for 15-minute spot market

What is happening and when?

EQ will launch and run a 15-minute spot model in parallel with the existing hourly spot model starting Friday, 19 September. We started to populate and roll out 15-minute curves on Tuesday, 16 September.

The aim is to provide you time to switch to the new model before the spot is nominated in 15-minute resolution, as of Tuesday, 30 September.

We will sunset the hourly forecast after the switch is made, sometime in mid-October. Furthermore, the data connected to the hourly spot market will be available in our database indefinitely.

Changes you need to make

You need to adjust your loaders to the new curve names to start pulling spot data on a 15-minute resolution. The new curve names are similar to the current curves, except that the indicator for resolution “H” is replaced with “15min”.

About the input to the spot model

There will be no changes to the fundamental input (demand and supply), which has run on a 15-minute resolution since September 2017, when we started EQ.

Details on countries affected

All 27 EU countries and Norway will switch to a 15-minute market resolution.

As far as we know now, Switzerland will make the switch later. Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, and Turkey will continue on hourly market resolution.

GB will run on a 30-minute schedule together with the ISEM (Ireland and Northern Ireland).
