Transition to 15-Minute Power Day-Ahead Auctions

On 30 September 2025, the European electricity market will take a major step forward with the implementation of 15-minute Market Time Units (MTUs) in the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC), replacing the current 60-minute intervals.

In support of this transition and Montel’s ongoing commitment to enhancing transparency in European energy markets, 15-minute Day-Ahead auction data will be made available through Montel’s services. Below, you’ll find details on how to access this data via Montel’s platforms.

Montel Online

The 15-minute data will be made available on country-specific pages, accessible via the respective regional categories in the 'Power' section of the menu. Users with access to the 60-minute data will automatically receive access without any action required.

Montel Web API

Retrieving 15-minute spot data via the Montel Web API will follow the same procedure currently used for 60-minute data. You will continue to use the same API endpoint: https://api.montelnews.com/spot/

The same SpotKeys used for 60-minute data will also apply to 15-minute data. To specify the desired resolution, include either “Hours” or “Quarters” as a Field in the API query:

  • "Hours" for 60-minute data
  • "Quarters" for 15-minute data

Montel XLF (Excel Feeder)

Retrieving 15-minute spot data using the Montel XLF Excel add-in will remain largely unchanged. The same spot products will be used for both 60-minute and 15-minute data.

To access 15-minute data:

  1. Ensure you have the latest version of Montel XLF installed. Download the newest version of Montel XLF here: https://support.montel.energy/how-to-install-montel-excelfeeder
  2. On the right side in the updated interface, check the “Quarterly” box before inserting data into your spreadsheet. This will ensure the data is returned in 15-minute resolution.

Testing Before Go-Live

15-minute test prices are already available via both the Montel Web API and Montel XLF. These can be accessed using the same methods and environments that will be used post-launch.

Please note:
Currently, only Nord Pool has published 15-minute test values. Therefore, only Nord Pool SpotKeys and SpotProducts can be used for testing. After go-live, 15-minute data from other NEMOs will be available using the same procedure.

Availability of 60-Minute Data

To ensure continuity for users who rely on hourly data, 60-minute values from Nord Pool and EPEX will remain available after the transition. Nord Pool will continue to publish 60-minute values, while the EPEX 60-minute values will be calculated by Montel as the average of the four corresponding 15-minute values.
